I made my first confetti resin coasters for a friend's birthday party, and they were such a hit that everyone wanted to know how to make their own! There's something absolutely magical about watching colorful confetti and glitter suspended in crystal-clear resin – it's like capturing the essence of celebration in functional art that you can use every day. These coasters bring instant joy to any gathering, and I love how they make even the most ordinary Tuesday evening feel a little more festive. The process of creating them is almost as fun as using them, especially when you experiment with different color combinations and watch the confetti settle into beautiful, random patterns. What started as party decorations has become my signature hostess gift because these coasters literally bring the party wherever they go, reminding everyone that life is worth celebrating in small, beautiful ways!

Resin & Materials

  • Epoxy Resin: Food-safe, crystal clear resin and hardener kit ($25-40)
  • Confetti Mix: Colorful paper confetti, biodegradable glitter, sequins ($8-15)
  • Silicone Molds: Round coaster molds, 4-inch diameter for standard size ($12-20)
  • Mixing Supplies: Disposable cups, stir sticks, graduated measuring cups ($8-12)
  • Safety Equipment: Gloves, respirator mask, eye protection for resin work ($15-25)
  • Workspace Setup: Drop cloths, ventilation, heat gun for bubbles ($10-20)
  • Total Investment: $75-135 for supplies to make 8-12 coaster sets

Casting Process

  1. Prepare well-ventilated workspace with protective coverings and safety equipment
  2. Mix confetti colors and glitter types to create desired celebration palette
  3. Combine resin and hardener according to manufacturer's exact ratios
  4. Pour thin base layer into molds and let set until slightly tacky
  5. Sprinkle confetti evenly across surface, creating balanced distribution
  6. Add second resin layer to suspend confetti, removing air bubbles with heat gun
  7. Cure according to resin specifications, typically 24-48 hours undisturbed
  8. Demold carefully and sand edges smooth for professional finished appearance
DESIGNER TIP

Professional resin artists know that the secret to stunning confetti coasters is creating depth through strategic layering. Here's my signature technique: pour three thin layers instead of two thick ones, adding different sizes of confetti to each layer. This creates amazing dimensional effects that change as light hits the coaster from different angles. My favorite color combination is gold glitter on the bottom, colorful paper confetti in the middle, and iridescent sequins on top for maximum sparkle. Pro tip: warm your resin slightly before mixing to reduce viscosity and eliminate more bubbles naturally. Also, create themed sets for different occasions – pastels for baby showers, metallics for New Year's, bright primaries for kids' parties. Each set becomes a celebration memory that lasts forever!
