Bath Hack
Small rental bathrooms rarely have enough towel bars, and adding more usually means drilling into tile or drywall you don't own. This floor-to-ceiling tension pole trick fakes a full towel wall using pressure alone, so it lifts away clean whenever your lease ends.
What You'll Need
- One floor-to-ceiling tension pole, adjustable height (~$30)
- 2-3 slide-on towel ring clips or S-hooks rated for tension poles (~$8)
- Rubber pole grips or felt pads for floor/ceiling contact (~$5)
- A small level to confirm the pole is plumb (optional, ~$6)
How to Do It
- Measure the ceiling height in your chosen bathroom corner, leaving an inch of clearance for the pole's expansion mechanism.
- Attach the rubber grips to both ends of the pole to protect flooring and ceiling finishes from pressure marks.
- Extend the pole into place, twisting until it's snug and checking it's plumb with a level.
- Slide towel rings or hooks onto the pole at varying heights for towels, robes, or a shower caddy.
- Test the pole's grip by tugging gently before loading it with damp towels.
- Remove anytime by twisting the pole down—it leaves no marks or residue on ceiling or floor.
DESIGNER TIP
Add a slim hanging shelf clip to the pole for extra shampoo or toiletry storage without sacrificing towel space.
