Small Space
Short on closets and drawers? Low-profile rolling bins turn the empty gap under your bed into a full storage zone. Nothing gets drilled, glued, or mounted, so your security deposit stays completely safe.
What You'll Need
- 2-4 low-profile rolling under-bed bins with lids and locking-free wheels (about $15-$30 each)
- Bed risers (optional), freestanding stackable type, if you need extra clearance (about $15-$25 for a set of four)
- Tape measure for checking clearance (you likely own one)
- Felt furniture pads to protect hard floors under the bin wheels (about $5)
- Blank adhesive-free fabric dividers or tote bags to sort items inside (about $5-$10)
How to Do It
- Measure the clearance between your floor and the bed frame, plus the depth of the space. Pick bins that are at least half an inch shorter than the gap.
- Clear everything out from under the bed and vacuum the floor so dust doesn't get trapped in your storage.
- Lift the bed on freestanding risers only if you need more height. They simply sit under the legs and lift right off at move-out, leaving no marks.
- Sort your items by season or purpose, such as off-season sweaters, extra bedding, and shoes. Place them in the bins using fabric dividers or tote bags.
- Attach felt pads to any hard-surface contact points if your bin wheels feel rough on the floor. They peel off clean when you're done.
- Slide the bins under the bed, lids on, with the handles facing out so you can roll them out easily. Everything is freestanding, so moving out is as simple as pulling them out.
DESIGNER TIP
Use a bed skirt or a long, floor-skimming duvet to hide the bins completely, so your bedroom looks tidy and styled instead of stuffed.
